You Can Now Get Ibogaine-Based Addiction Treatment In A Hospital Setting In Brazil
Brazil is now offering psychedelic therapy options for people dealing with addiction, all within a hospital setting.
According to exclusive information, Beneva, a new brand of psychedelic therapy clinics launched by Bienstar Wellness Corp., has begun offering its psychotherapy treatments assisted by ibogaine and ketamine in the South American country.
This integrative mental health company —pioneering this type of therapies in the region, is currently operating in the state of São Paulo and preparing to expand to other Latin American cities over next year.

In recent decades, after a strong renaissance of clinical research around ibogaine and other mind-expanding drugs, psychedelic-assisted therapies are becoming increasingly popular as viable alternatives for patients who do not respond to conventional treatments. Ibogaine is an hallucinogen originally produced by the iboga shrub of West Africa and its application is being researched in the treatment of addiction to opiates and other substances. Ketamine, for its part, is a synthetic dissociative drug producing psychedelic-like effects. Originally approved as an anesthetic, ketamine is currently used to quickly recover patients from acute states of extreme depression or suicidal ideation.
The use of both substances to treat different mental health conditions is authorized in Brazil, as long as it is performed under proper medical supervision and in a hospital setting.
Ibogaine In The Treatment Of Addiction
Ibogaine is an alkaloid extracted from the root bark of Tabernanthe iboga, a shrub native to the rainforests of Congo and Gabon and in the Ogoue river delta. The first evidence of its medicinal use dates back to 20,000 years ago, when the Pygmies used it in sacred healing rituals. This tradition extends to the present day, being central to the ceremonies of the Bwiti religious movement, which spread in the region in the 19th century.
The Western world did not know its therapeutic use until the 20th century, with Albert Schweitzer’s research in the 1930s and Howard Lotsof’s almost three decades later. It was precisely Lotsof who in 1962 discovered that the ingestion of this substance can produce positive effects in people with opioid addiction, as it contributes to the reduction of withdrawal symptoms. These series of discoveries opened the doors to more investigations focused on the therapeutic effects of ibogaine in patients with opioid dependency, offering scientific evidence to confirm that the substance could be safe and effective in treating this condition.

Ibogaine Treatment In Beneva Clinics
The administration of ibogaine-assisted therapies by Beneva Clinics was made possible thanks to the recent acquisition of BRC Saúde Mental e Terapias Assistidas in July and the hiring of its director, Dr. Bruno Rasmussen Chaves, as chief medical officer. A specialist in clinical medicine and gastroenterology, Rasmussen has treated more than 2,000 people with ibogaine in 27 years of professional activity. He works with a team of highly qualified psychiatrists and psychologists to provide treatments with scientific rigor. In addition, he has led several investigations on the effects of ibogaine in patients with addiction disorders, including an observational study conducted on a sample of 80 patients, which showed that 70% of the subjects managed to remain at least one year without relapsing into drug use.
“It is not a miracle cure, but when used carefully and with psychological support, it is a valuable treatment alternative for patients with severe addictions who do not have successful results through other approaches,” indicates Rasmussen, current medical director of Bienstar and Beneva Clinics.
It should be noted that ibogaine is not prohibited in Brazil, although it is not fully registered as a conventional drug either. Since 2013, Anvisa, the health authority of this country, has legally allowed the import and use of this type of substance as long as it is for personal use and the patient has a medical prescription. In addition, a São Paulo State Decree of 2016, which encourages scientific research against problematic drug use, authorizes and regulates the use of ibogaine for the treatment of addiction under medical supervision and in hospital settings.
Ketamine-assisted Therapies
In addition to addiction treatments based on the administration of ibogaine, Beneva offers different types of ketamine-assisted therapies, with a team of anesthesiologists with extensive experience in the application of intravenous ketamine. Ketamine infusions are, according to recent studies, a fast and safe option for treating resistant depression, suicidal ideation, and chronic and acute pain.
Since 2013, Anvisa and the Regional Council of Medicine of São Paulo have authorized the use of ketamine for clinical studies, always under strict protocol, as well as its use as an anesthetic and as a drug to treat depressive disorders under medical supervision and in hospital settings. For this reason, Beneva can offer these therapies guaranteeing their safety and legality according to the Brazilian regulatory framework.
Recently, the BJPSych Open journal published a systematic review that reports on the efficacy of ketamine, not only in the treatment of treatment-resistant depression, but also as a method to reduce suicidal thoughts. This work gathers a series of investigations that demonstrate the presence of almost immediate anti-suicidal effects after the administration of the substance, lasting longer than those of other drugs administered for that purpose, so it concludes that ketamine could be a good alternative to generate rapid relief in patients with suicidal ideation and prevent them from reaching the instance of self-harm.

Several companies have been fooling supporters of former President Donald Trump by selling commemorative items they claimed could be used as legal tender, according to NBC News, as some Trump supporters said they spent thousands of dollars on the items in an effort to support a future presidential campaign.
One person told NBC News they spent more than $2,000.

Colorado-based companies Patriots Dynasty, Patriots Future and USA Patriots have been advertising products with Trump’s likeness, including black $10,000 “Trump Bucks”—sold for $99.99—they said could be redeemed as legal tender at most banks, including JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo, though none responded to inquiries from NBC News.
The items—which include coins, checks and membership cards—are sold alongside “Trump Rebate Banking System” handbooks, which the companies claim are “official documents” that allow the items to be used.
Bank of America spokesperson Bill Halldin told NBC News there were reports of customers coming into the bank to exchange “Trump Bucks” for cash.
One Trump supporter claimed to spend $2,200 on the items before warning others on Twitter about the scam, while a woman from Alabama said she spent $1,500 on “Trump Bucks,” before a Bank of America employee told her she had been scammed.
Advertisements for the commemorative items are featured on Telegram and YouTube, including one video that warns “Trump Bucks are not legal tender” before suggesting the membership cards “are official cards issued by Donald Trump.”
The advertisements coincide with “reviews” of the novelty items, including an AI-generated promotional video on TikTok that features a fake Trump discussing the handbooks, and a review in “Alternative Science” that suggests former Fox News host Tucker Carlson spoke with a “representative from Trump’s office” about the handbook.

The commemorative items are not the first with Trump’s likeness to be sold with the promise they could be used as legal tender. A 2022 New York Times report uncovered a similar scheme involving silver coins with Trump’s face, which were advertised by fake accounts on Telegram and TikTok. Trump’s son Eric threatened to sue the creators behind the cryptocurrency “TrumpCoin,” which launched in February 2016, according to the Independent. Eric later deleted a tweet calling for litigation, after TrumpCoin indicated it was not at all affiliated with the family or Trump’s presidential campaign. TrumpCoin—worth just over 2 cents—later suggested it could be the official currency for Trump’s social media site Truth Social.

And with the company’s trio of new strains to launch in one of America’s biggest cannabis markets, the company still aims to keep prices fair.

Following a big Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas, tens of thousands of additional visitors will make their way to Las Vegas for the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP). The poker action gets started this week for the 54th annual WSOP and seven-week run of 95 gold bracelet events. This year also marks the 20-year anniversary of Chris Moneymaker’s most unlikely bracelet victory in the 2003 WSOP Main Event.
Records are set to be broken again, including an estimated turnout of more than 8,800 for the Main Event starting July 3.
For the second straight year, the WSOP will be held on the Las Vegas Strip at the Paris Hotel & Casino and the re-branded Horseshoe Las Vegas, formerly Bally’s.

WSOP Weekend Warrior events with entries from $300 to $1,500
The 2023 WSOP also includes 20 online poker events through WSOP.com, WSOP online poker is available in Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan, but players must be physically in the state of Nevada to enter and participate in World Series of Poker online events.
Mega Satellites

Daily mega satellites will be available every day during the WSOP from May 30- July 14. Daily Mega Satellites will award Tournament Buy-In Credit that players can then use to enter WSOP bracelet events, Daily Deep Stacks and all Mega Satellites. Buy-ins range from $135, #240, $580 to $1,100. Some mega satellites will be paid out in casino chips (cash prizes) for those who prefer to play other WSOP events.

The full schedule also includes mega satellites to the Mystery Millions and Gladiators of Poker for as little as $50. Specialty mega satellites are available for poker players wanting to win their seat into bigger events like the $10,000 Main Event, or $25,000-$50,000 High Roller events and $50,000 Poker Players Championship. In addition, Super High Roller mega satellites will be available for the $100,000 and $250,000 Super High Roller events.
The WSOP has transitioned out of the single table satellites at this year’s WSOP to allow more players to win their way into additional events.
“The mega satellites are great opportunities for players to qualify for tournaments,” said Jack Effel. “We’re offering many multi-table opportunities at various price points to allowing more players to win seats.”
Along with mega satellites to attract even more players to the 2023 WSOP Main Event, the World Series of Poker launched Main Event Mania, which took place May 20-21 at 15 different casinos from around the world. Six seats were awarded at Horseshoe Las Vegas and 15 more at Thunder Valley Casino Resort in California plus dozens more at other casinos.

Chris Moneymaker changed the game of poker forever with his 2003 WSOP Main Event win. He’s become poker’s ‘Everyman’ ambassador, bringing millions of new players into the game.

The “Moneymaker effect” was millions of people across the world deciding that they wanted to follow their dreams like Chris Moneymaker and hit it big playing online poker and live tournaments. Chris Moneymaker parlayed an $86 online satellite into a $2.5 million top prize in the 2003 WSOP Main Event as he outlasted 839 entrants to become a world champion in poker.
“It was so crazy,” Moneymaker said. “My goal was to just get through the day every single day and try to survive.”
Tens of thousands of poker players have tried their hand in the WSOP since hoping to survive and advance in search of a big “all-in” poker payday.
The following year at Binion’s Horseshoe in downtown Las Vegas, 2,576 entries made up the 2004 Main Event, which to this day still has a $10,000 entry fee. The WSOP moved to the Rio Hotel & Casino off Flamingo Road just West of the Las Vegas Strip in 2005, and the poker boom was in full force with record turnouts for tournaments including 5,619 entries for the 2005 Main Event. The 2006 Main Event drew a record 8,773 entrants, which remains the all-time record but is expected to be broken this year following the 2022 Main Event turnout of 8,663 players.
Last year’s WSOP Main Event generated a prize pool of $80,772,475 and paid out 1,300 places including eight millionaire’s at the Final Table with Norway’s Espen Jorstad winning the WSOP Main Event gold bracelet and a whopping $10 million.

Chris Moneymaker worked with the poker player alliance for many years trying to bring online poker back into the U.S. Moneymaker was a longtime ambassador of Poker Stars, and he’s currently representing Americas Cardroom while also working with poker.org as an advisor for content and additional poker coverage. He’s also trying to open more poker clubs across the U.S while promoting for more legislation in additional states.
